Why you need to learn and understand music before production

Music Production is going places these days and most of the music coming out is just not up-to the mark, where we can say, I love it today ill love it tomorrow. It’s just bad or a one-time listen. What’s the reason behind it? Well.

These day’s we get out of bed watch few you-tube videos and get ourselves super charged then, we rush ourselves to the nearest music store and grab every piece of tech or gadgets which we can afford making our selves go wow, we hide ourselves in our rooms for hours and hours producing music with lot of  time, energy, brain and our hearts invested in, we tell our selves we have produced our master piece and this is going to be a hit. Really! is that true or It is worth? Yes! it is if it’s done with proper music knowledge, why not, if not then what?

You Need to Learn Music Before Music Production

I am not asking you to learn any music instruments, however if you do so that would be best if you don’t, then at least learn music theory.

1.     What is Music Theory and Why is it Important for Music Producers?

Music theory is the study of how music works. It includes topics such as scales, chords, harmony, intervals, and rhythm. Knowing music theory can help you understand how to produce and arrange music in a way that sounds good. It can also help you become a better music producer or sound engineer or even a song writer. Learning music theory will give you an edge when it comes to producing professional-sounding tracks. It will also provide you with valuable tips and tricks for making quality recordings and creating interesting soundscapes.

2.     Learning Music Theory Can Impact Your Compositions & Recordings.

Learning music theory can have a huge impact on your compositions and recordings. It can help you understand the relationship between notes, chords, scales, and rhythms. It can also give your insight into composition techniques that will make your tracks sound better.

By learning basic music theory, producers and composers can start to explore different composition techniques such as chord progressions, counterpoint and modulation. This knowledge will not only help you create more interesting musical ideas but also enhance your recording techniques. With a better understanding of music theory, producers and composers will be able to create more dynamic tracks that stand out from the crowd. Singer and other musicians would be able to communicate and understand you better, thus creating a music piece that would be lovely to hear and feel.

3.     Young Music Producers, Should Study the Greats of Music and Examples of Their Work

Music is a field of study that can help you understand and appreciate the great works of music from the past. It can also help you create your own compositions and develop your own style. By studying the harmonic principles in variety of music genres, as well as studying the great composers in history, you can gain a better understanding of why certain pieces of music have stood, the test of time.

Studying the great masters of composition can also provide insight into how to use their techniques to create something unique. By learning about their harmonic structures, chord progressions, and melodic ideas, you can apply these concepts to your own compositions. Through this process, you will gain a greater appreciation for what makes a piece of music so special and timeless.

4.     Produce What you Know Best

Music producers know that in order to create great music, they must understand the melodic patterns that make up a song. They need to be able to build upon what they already know and then use that knowledge of music production techniques to create something unique.

Producers produce what they know best, and this is why it’s important for them to have an understanding of different musical styles and genres. By understanding the fundamentals of music production, a producer can create something that stands out from the rest. Produce the music that you like, not what others are producing.

The key, to becoming a successful producer, is having an understanding of what you’re creating and how it will sound when it’s finished. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses as a producer can help you build on what you know best and create something truly unique. Learn music learn the way it works and you will be amazed how beautiful your production gets. Just Practice, Practice and Practice and you will be the great at it soon.

And after you have learnt your music the next step is to learn your DAW and learn it well. I have an episode focused on which DAW is the best, do hear that too it will help you out getting the best one for you needs.
